# Patent Drawings Checklist

*PatentJuris Checklist — this is a PatentJuris-created working document
and is not an official form of any patent office. Each office has its own
formal drawing requirements (line weight, sheet size, margins, numbering);
verify against your target office's current drawing standards before
filing.*

## Before you draw

- [ ] Every feature mentioned in the claims that can be shown visually is
shown in at least one figure.
- [ ] You've planned enough figures to show the invention from every
      angle/embodiment necessary to understand it.

## Per-figure checklist

- [ ] Figure number is present and matches the "Brief Description of the
      Drawings" section of the specification.
- [ ] Reference numerals are used consistently — the same part has the
same number in every figure it appears in.
- [ ] Reference numerals are listed nowhere else but the drawings
themselves (no descriptive text on the drawing sheet).
- [ ] Line quality is black-and-white, no color or greyscale shading
unless the office explicitly allows and requires it for this
      submission type.
- [ ] No stray marks, watermarks, or extraneous text.

## Before submission

- [ ] Drawing sheet size and margins match the target office's current
      requirements.
- [ ] File format matches what the office's e-filing system accepts.
- [ ] Every reference numeral used in the drawings also appears somewhere
      in the specification text.
